PSA Hot Melt Adhesive

What is hot melt pressure sensitive adhesive?

Hot melt pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) refers to a type of adhesive, which is sensitive to pressure. It can be bonded to the substrate with a little pressure. It does not use solvents or other auxiliary methods. It is a type of synthetic rubber mixed with resin and rubber oil. PSA hot melt adhesive is widely used in bonding applications.

Hot Melt Pressure Sensitive Adhesives (HMPSA), is best known for its aggressive bond strength even at room temperature. Even the glue is cooled, it does not fully set but remains tacky. The contact substrate and applying pressure creates an increasing bonding to joined parts.

It is good to environmental protection and safe production. It can also improve production efficiency, and relatively reduce production cost. At present, many countries are vigorously developing hot-melt pressure-sensitive adhesives.

GC Adhesives Company, a reliable manufacturer of pressure sensitive hot melt glue, supplies a wide series of high performance of PSA hot melt adhesive, in many degrees of color, tack, viscosity and peel strength. They are suitable for bonding substrates, including films, paper, plastics, and textiles and so on. Our pressure sensitives can be widely used in following industries: automotive, diapers, mail bags, insect traps, rat traps, labels, tape. Contact us for your special PSA glue applications. We will suggest PUR hotmelt adhesive types accordingly, as well as send samples for your reference.

Ingredient and component

The main components of hot-melt pressure-sensitive adhesives are base ingredient, plasticizers, tackifiers, fillers, antioxidants, and thermoplastic elastomers.

Base ingredient has two types: resin type and rubber type. They features certain fluidity or has fluidity with solvents, dispersants, under heat or pressure. Those resins, used as adhesives, or natural rubber can act as the base ingredient. It is necessary to choose a resin with a relatively uniform molecular weight distribution.

Plasticizer is a substance that can reduce glass transition and melting temperature. It can improve brittleness and melt fluidity. There are two types, namely internal plasticizer and external plasticizer.

Internal plasticizers are substances that can chemically react with polymer compounds, such as unsaturated polyester resins, polyamide resins, etc. External plasticizers are those, do not have any chemical reaction with polymer compounds, like various esters, etc.

The tackifier has a wetting effect on the object to be adhered. It can produce high adhesion under certain conditions, through surface diffusion or internal diffusion. Most of the tackifiers are low molecular weighted thermoplastic resins. They are viscous or solid at room temperature. Or they have fluidity with appropriate solvents.

Fillers is a type of solid material, which does not chemically react with the base material. However it can alter the adhesive’ properties. In the meanwhile it can reduce the cost. There are inorganic and organic fillers.

Antioxidantscan prevent or inhibit the oxidation process. Antioxidants are divided into two categories: free radical terminators and hydroperoxide decomposers.

Thermoplastic elastomers have unparalleled unique and excellent properties in some aspects, like low modulus, low solution viscosity and melt viscosity. With a certain shear rate, it has good processing properties, such as coating.
